ONLINE ASSESSMENT PLATFORM “HOW DO I LEARN?”
A project for Cornelsen Switzerland

Case
With Cornelsen’s product “Wie lerne ich?” (How Do I Learn?), students in Switzerland can assess their individual learning styles and compare them with others. We’ve moved the traditional business model to the cloud.
Solution
Cornelsen commissioned devsuit to develop a concept for the digital implementation of a learning behavior test. From analog to digital. We’re happy to do it—and we do it well.
Customized requirements, customized implementation
Online tests can often be implemented using standard software such as authoring tools or tools for creating interactive exercises. Not in this case: The particular challenge of the project lay in the complex evaluation logic and specific client requirements regarding design/UX.
Optimized for mobile devices
The end product needed to stay “true” to the successful print version while also leveraging the benefits of a digital, cloud-based solution and being optimized for mobile devices. Sound impossible? Not quite. During the conceptualization and architectural design phase, we used wireframes to find the right setup to get started within just a few weeks.
Off-the-shelf software vs. custom development
Since customizing standard authoring software would have been too time-consuming, our team of experienced developers opted for a custom web application based on the widely used Python framework Django as the backend. The backend comes with an easy-to-use administration interface out of the box. This gives Cornelsen full control over all test content at all times. Vue.js was used as the frontend: This allowed the client’s design guidelines to be adequately implemented for both desktop and mobile versions. A PDF export of test results and the ability to compare previous tests round out the offering for users.
Launch Just in Time for the Start of the School Year
After six months of development and testing, we celebrated the go-live with the client. Just in time for the start of the school year and semester, the website https://www.wie-lerne-ich.ch went live, and Cornelsen was able to plan further user tests to continuously improve the product.
Operations on the safe side
As a long-term partner, we operate and monitor the application using standardized procedures with the monitoring tools Sentry and Datadog: This allows our developers to keep an eye on the system’s stability and performance without significant effort: Always one step ahead for an uninterrupted customer experience.
