2026 SUMMER FESTIVAL AT LAKE WERBELLIN
June 30, 2026
Two days at Werbellinsee instead of video conferences and coding: Our 2026 summer party, featuring a sunbathing area, mini-golf, and the European Soccer Championship on the lakeside terrace.
Summer Festival 2026:
Two Days at Werbellinsee
In addition to the Christmas party, the summer festival has a long tradition at devsuit: While activities in December often have to take place indoors or in the cold water, the summer months invite us to enjoy very special ‒ and, once again this year, sunny ‒ events. This time, we headed out of Berlin ‒ to Lake Werbellin in the Choriner Schorfheide. The trip included an overnight stay, a sunbathing area, stand-up paddleboarding, and mini-golf, all enjoyed in midsummer temperatures.
Why We Do This
We work remotely. It works well and is the reason we can collaborate with people who don’t happen to live in Berlin-Kreuzberg. But it comes at a cost: You get to know your coworkers through tickets, pull requests, and video tiles. You learn how someone works long before you learn how they laugh. That’s why we have our summer party once a year. No meetings, flip charts, or workshops. Just everyone in one place ‒ and this year, for the first time, with an overnight stay, because, honestly, one day just isn’t long enough.
Werbellinsee Instead of a Conference Room
On June 25, we set off for Schorfheide, a good hour north of Berlin. We spent the night at the Fontane Hotel, right on Lake Werbellin. Joining us were seven coworkers, our swimsuits, and plenty of sunscreen. The thermometer climbed to 38° during those days! The lake is about ten kilometers long, very clear, and a beautiful turquoise-green color. Thanks to the great weather, we spent the afternoon on the beach ‒ split into the classic groups: some in the water, others in the shade, claiming they had to keep an eye on our belongings.
Stand-up paddleboarding and pedal boating
After grabbing a bite to eat at the “Alte Fischerei” seafood restaurant, we put our skills to the test on (and in) the water. Here, too, two groups formed: the ambitious stand-up paddlers and the laid-back pedal boaters. Spoiler: The pedal boaters “got to” pull everyone else around the lake for a bit every now and then.
The Mini-Golf Tournament
After two hours on the water, we didn’t really need the towel, because the sun was really beating down. We grabbed a soft-serve ice cream on the way to the mini-golf course, and then the battle against the heat began. We’d planned this as a relaxing activity. That was a mistake. To cut to the chase: We made it through without suffering any heat-related issues partly because our colleague David was able to very patiently and successfully get the giant water-spraying fans up and running ‒ a real relief in those temperatures. This allowed everyone else to console themselves by letting Christian, the inevitable winner at (mini) golf, take the victory. Despite his undisputed triumph, he immediately began randomly challenging colleagues to arm-wrestling matches to rack up even more victories. He’s simply accustomed to success and ambitious ‒ and our customers benefit from that, too.
Dinner on the lakeside terrace
The evening continued on its (still sunny) course with a wonderful meal on the lakeside terrace, but the public viewing that followed (it was the European Soccer Championship) left some people looking a bit glum. A midnight dip in the lake provided the much-needed change of pace for at least one colleague who was bored by the game.
It was a nice stay
We had two wonderful days here ‒ with lots of great memories. We're looking forward to next year's summer festival ‒ maybe at Werbellin Lake again.
